Resilience & Return to work

Supporting employees through overload and their return to work

You want to provide the right support when an employee's resilience is under pressure or their return to work raises questions. But what kind of guidance is most appropriate?

Sometimes, people keep pushing themselves while finding it increasingly difficult to maintain healthy boundaries. Others may feel ready to return to work but lack confidence, clarity or a sense of direction in their professional role.

Horse Act offers individual HorsePower® coaching with horses, commissioned by employers and professional partners. The coaching focuses on personal resilience, boundaries, communication and applying these insights in the workplace.

When could this programme be helpful?

You may be looking for additional support for an employee who:

  • wants to become more aware of signs of stress and personal boundaries.
  • finds it difficult to express needs and set boundaries at work.
  • wants to rebuild confidence after a challenging period.
  • is looking to redefine their professional role when returning to work.
  • wants to manage responsibilities and other people's expectations more consciously.

During an introductory conversation, we'll explore whether this development-focused coaching is appropriate for the employee's needs and circumstances.

Creating space to discover what someone needs

Through guided exercises with horses, employees explore how they respond to stress, interaction, pace and responsibility.

What do they notice about themselves? When does a personal boundary become apparent? What changes when they communicate that boundary clearly or adjust their pace?

These experiences provide a starting point for reflection. We then connect the insights to real workplace situations: expressing needs, discussing expectations, asking for support and making conscious choices in collaboration with others.

An individual programme with a clear structure

The HorsePower® programme includes:

  • Online preparation and a personalised HorsePower® report.
  • Four individual horse-assisted coaching sessions, each lasting 90 minutes.
  • A copy of the book Paardenkracht to support personal reflection.
  • The option of an additional follow-up session.

The employee's personal development goals and individual pace guide the coaching process.

Clear agreements between employer and employee

Before starting, we discuss the reason for the programme, its objectives and the role of the commissioning organisation. We also agree on any feedback that may be shared.

The personal HorsePower® report remains confidential to the employee. Any information shared with the employer or another professional partner is agreed upon in advance with the employee.

HorsePower® provides development-focused coaching. It does not replace medical or psychological treatment and does not assess fitness for work. Where relevant, we discuss how the programme can complement support from other professionals.

Coaching is provided by an accredited HorsePower® equine coach. All exercises take place on the ground, and no previous experience with horses is required. Location, scheduling and practical arrangements are agreed upon beforehand.

What our coaching participants say

Personal Resilience - “I always thought being strong meant being able to handle everything. During the sessions, I discovered that my real strength lies in recognising my boundaries. That's something I now carry with me every day.”

Burnout - “After my burnout, my biggest fear was falling back into the same patterns. The horses helped me realise how quickly I push myself too far. I'm now learning to manage my energy much more consciously.”

Setting Boundaries - “I knew I should say no more often, but I never did. Working with the horses, I experienced for the first time what changed when I clearly expressed my boundaries. Without feeling guilty about it.”

Self-Confidence - “What touched me most was that I didn't have to prove anything to the horse. I could simply be myself. It sounds so simple, but for me, it was an enormous discovery.”

Return to Work - “I really wanted to return to work, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to sustain it. The sessions helped me understand what I need to approach my work differently. With more confidence, but also with more respect for myself.”
